After hiring tradesmen for decades and constantly being frustrated with their inability to turn up on time and clean up their mess, we decided we could either complain about it for the rest of our lives, or do something about it.
So in 2013 we launched this company – based only in the Nelson region, with some very clear, but very simple service standards.
Trade Central is a Nelson-based, family owned business that grew out of our wish to provide a reliable and punctual service to homeowners in the Nelson region.
We’re proud to say that in the ensuing years, we have built our business on three things –
- We turn up when we say we will;
- Our team do great work; and
- We clean up after ourselves
As we got started, we realised there was a need for something else as well – customers who were doing a multi-trade renovation or house extension wanted someone to manage the job. And so instead of only doing repairs and maintenance, we found a strong demand for good project management on larger projects. And here’s the best part – our project management is free to you when it’s our team on the job.
For most homeowners, managing contractors can be stressful, and so it is our wish is that no matter what project you have in mind for your home, one phone number gets every trade you’ll ever need.
In keeping with our commitment to you, our clients, we only hire the best in the business. We are careful to make sure that we hire tradesmen you can trust in your house and with your work.

Our team not only do great work, but love giving you the level of service you’ve always wanted – and our clients tell us that’s the key thing – we’re not just sending you a plumber, a sparkie or a builder – we’re providing you with great service at the same price as everyone else.
We have both Registered and Certifying plumbers and gas fitters, two sparkies, four painting teams, two interior plasterers, two tilers, six building teams, a building designer, a handywoman and specialist gutter cleaner, two quoting managers, and the people who manage them all are our project and operations managers.
Along the way we were not entirely surprised to find that good service and good communication cost no more. Our customers have been surprised – and definitely delighted that it’s possible to get a great job done, reliably and on time. Although we’re a growing company, we enjoy the personal touch – regular clients often ask for one of our staff by name.
